Eco Boost Mustang Manual
by: Luca Romagnoli
EcoBoost Mustang boasts a modern option on an iconic American classic.
Putting an unusual twist on the American Pony car, Ford has strapped a
2.3 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder into their party piece vehicle. The
engine produces 310 horsepower and 320 pound feet of torque. This is all
sent to the rear tires, helping them break lose when in high rpm. The
forced induction is pushed into the engine by a Borg Warner turbo
running at a high PSI. Because of this, there is some delay in power in
the higher gears and lower rpm, but this can be easily overcome by a
simple downshift by the near perfect short shift manual transmission.
The gear changes are sharp and quick, sending the turbo spooling in
seconds and a smile on your face even faster. With the turbo gauges and
fighter jet style start button, there is a sense of “tuner” when
entering this vehicle. As the turbo spools up and the gauges all flash
on the dashboard, you feel as if you are in a garage built project car
than runs only on months of your own hard work. With starting prices
right around $26,000, the EcoBoost is also a cheaper alternative to its
$32,000 V8 brother. Overall, I believe that the 2.3L mustang provides a
more fuel efficient and fun package for the price. After all, anything
is faster than being stopped filling up.
